Dinner at Jacobs & Co. Steakhouse

My parents celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary at Jacobs & Co. Steakhouse (12 Brant St). Jacobs & Co. has been heralded as one of the best steakhouses in the city, and I was eager to try their steaks. My parents had been there once before and they loved it. So, I was expecting dinner to be amazing!

We arrived a little early for dinner and were seated at the top floor of the two-storey restaurant. Our server then approached us to explain the menu and to answer any of our questions. We ordered two Caesar salads for starters. For the mains: my parents chose a 14oz Canadian Prime Hereford ribeye and a side of mashed potatoes and, after much debate, my sister and I settled on the 16oz Wagyu striploin from Snake River farms and a side of baked potato.

They brought a delicious bread basket to our table first, followed by a salad-making trolley. For the latter, a member of the kitchen staff came over and made the dressing from scratch, added the lettuce, bacon, and the cheese, and distributed the salad among the four of us. The whole experience was unreal, but the salad was excellent!

The staff then brought over an assortment of rubs, sauces, and spreads in preparation for the arrival of the steaks. Notable mentions from the lot include the Hawaiian black salt, chimichurri sauce, and blue cheese spread. 

The pièce de résistance soon arrived at our table in the form of the ribeye and the Wagyu striploin. The ribeye was divine: it was soft and extremely flavourful. The wagyu striploin, on the other hand, was a notch tougher, but was rich in marbling, lending delicious flavour to the already decadent striploin. Bravo! 

The sides were equally exquisite. In particular, the baked potato was soft, packed with flavour, and oozing with cheesy goodness.

We didn't order any desserts, but they did bring over a complimentary plate of shortbread cookies and chocolate as well as a plate of coffee cake! All things considered, Jacobs & Co. is surely a top-notch restaurant. The food was divine, and the service was excellent. I think what they have been saying is true: it IS one of the best steakhouses in Toronto. I highly recommend it.
