A Carisma, Catrin, and Cluny Weekend

Italian Food at Carisma

My sister's and my birthday weekend was certainly a fun one. We both took Thursday and Friday off to indulge a little bit, beginning with an excessively sumptuous lunch at Carisma (73 King St E) for Diana's birthday. We each ordered a glass of house wine to accompany our meal of Insalata di Cesare, Burrata cheese, Casarecci, Ravioli, and dessert. We then whiled away the remainder of the afternoon in Yorkville and at Harbourfront, the latter boasting beautiful views of the lake.

Mexican Food at El Catrin

We made our way to the Distillery District after our meanderings for dinner with the folks at El Catrin (18 Tank House Ln). We ordered a slew of dishes to share between us, which included guacamole en la mesa, chiccharones el catrin, cochinito ahumado, and tacos gobernadores. Of course, a celebration would not be complete without a pitcher of mango margarita. It was undoubtedly a "happy" evening...

Appetizers

We celebrated my birthday at the new Cluny Bistro and Boulangerie (35 Tank House Ln) the following evening. We dined on fresh PEI oysters, Cluny's crisp dinosaur kale & queen kale salad, and papillion noir roquefort, each dish being both decadent and divine.

The Mains

Our appetizers were followed by equally delicious mains: the 10 oz striploin (not pictured), the 6 oz filet mignon, the Cluny double bacon cheese burger, and the Qualicom Bay scallops. The portions were enormous, especially in the case of the cheese burger but we certainly did not think they were an issue.

Desserts

Last but not the least, we had dessert! Apart from the profiteroles we were surprised with, we also had macaron ice cream sandwiches to share between us. Not a bad way to celebrate getting older! Cheers.
